Molly was not feeling well tonight. If her glassy, half open four year old eyes and slightly elevated temperature weren't a clue of this, then her words surely were.
She came to me in the living room and pathetically (and tearfully) cried out, "Why did you not name me a Bible name?"
She then continued in her woe.
"You named Noah a Bible name. Why did you not name me and Jack Bible names?" (insert more tears) "Why did you name me Molly? Why didn't you name me Mary?" (insert woe and tears and a sad, sad face)
I assured her that Molly was sweet and lovely, just like her.
Okay, so perhaps she wasn't so sweet and lovely at that moment. But, I knew that she was saying this because: (1) She was not feeling well, and (2) She loves Our Heavenly Mother. It was hard to begrudge her either of these points. So, I did humor her a bit. It didn't really help.
I tried to reassure her again, and this time pointing out that not only did the name Molly come from Mary, but also that we gave her a saint name for a middle name. In fact, I call her by both her first and middle name together about half the time, so we often use her saintly middle name. When we looked up pictures of some of the saints with the same name, it did seem to make her feel a little bit better.
Still -- I think she went to bed pretty sure that life would look a lot more rosy tomorrow if her name was Mary.

Molly is certainly a form of Mary, though.
Aww! I love the name Molly, I have an aunt with the name and it flows with our other girls, so it's always a possibility for future children.
Bailey and Riley have very un-Catholic names since we were atheists when they were born! Not even their middles names could qualify!
All children seem to go through a stage of not liking their names. As a member of the hippie generation, I gave all my children nature names, ones that no one else in their class ever had! I also gave them traditional middle names: Elizabeth, Thomas, etc. I figured that when they grew up, they could choose to use their first or second name. They are all grown. They have all chosen to stay with their first names, which they now all like. The one son who has two children of his own gave one child a traditional name (Nicholas -- had to do that; he was born Christmas Day) and one child a rare name (as we did with him and his siblings). So, there is hope...!
Awww, that is sweet. My youngest is the only one that doesn't start with the letter A. It is only a matter of time before she asks why. I don't have a really good answer except that I was in love with the name I picked for her.

Look here: http://www.babynames.com/name/MOLLY and you will see that "Molly" is actually a diminutive form of "Mary" so she is named Mary except the nickname for Mary is Molly! Kids are so cute! My Katie Anne is only 3 but I bet she'll come up with something like that when she gets a little older. GBY, Erika
