Showing Support For Someone Newly Unemployed

Oh yeah, it's the chicken noodle soup again. I used this same picture before to tell about how to make homemade chicken noodle soup, and then I used it to tell about what a wonderful idea it is to take a meal to a family with a new baby (or a sick family member).

But, here I am again -- it's the chicken noodle soup picture again.

In my defense, I actually did make the chicken noodle soup again today. I also made two loaves of homemade artisan bread thanks to Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking. And, then I finished it up with brownies (from scratch) and some chocolate dipped strawberries.

Wow! What a meal! Because everything made so much, my family actually got to enjoy this as well. But, more importantly, it was made for a Mom (and her family) in my homeschooling group whose husband has lost his job.

I don't think I would have thought about it on my own, but I was so pleased to be able to sign up to take them a meal. In a time when economic situations can be difficult, it can be such a blessing to a family who has lost their main source of income to not only have someone else take care of a meal one night, but also to know that someone is thinking of them.

So, I encourage everyone -- if you know someone who has recently had a big life change, ask yourself, "Can I make things just a tiny better by preparing them a meal?" If the answer is yes, and you are able to do it, just drop them an email or give them a call to let them know that you would love to provide dinner for them one night.

Do you know someone who could use a meal?

Making meals seems like such a small thing, but it means so much! When Riley was in the NICU and we were driving to Lafayette twice a day to be with her (and drop off my absurd amounts of milk, lol) my SIL drove all the way from Ohio to make and freeze enough dinners to last a couple months. And I can't forget my LLL friends who brought me a bunch of food after Rory was born!

I signed up to bring dinner to the family in our group with Dad in the hospital. It's a good feeling to pass that act of bringing a meal on, I know how much it helped me!

Katie -- I totally agree! We got meals when we had Molly, and it was such a blessing!

I also signed up for the latest round of meals. The meal that I took to the unemployed family was also from our group.

I also agree that it makes me feel good to do this for a family. And, I always figure that what goes around comes around. One day, we might need meals, and hopefully the good karma will help. ;)
