As I tucked the boys into bed the other night, I reminded them that Spring Break would be over soon, and that they would be heading back to school on Monday. I asked them if they were happy to be going back to school.
Noah quickly said, "Yeah! I'll like to see all of my friends."
I think that I felt my shoulders shrink down and I looked at Eric with a worried look on my face.
"Now, don't even do that," he chided me. He then continued to the boys, "Mommy worries that you won't like homeschooling."
"Why wouldn't we like it?!?" Jack asked, as if I had suggested that they might not like chocolate.
The next morning, one of the first things out of Jack's mouth was (with a smile on his face), "Do you know what I will like about homeschooling, Mom? I'll really like that people won't bring in dogs and cats to show and tell like they do at regular school sometimes." And, then he just sat grinning at me.
I couldn't help but smile back at him. I knew that it wasn't just random that he told me that. It had probably been rolling around his six year old head all night, just waiting for morning to remind me that they are excited about it.

They will like homeschooling! It is fun being home with your family. It really is.
But don't worry too much if their emotions don't go in the direction you want them to. Remember your reasons for homeschooling, and keep repeating them all the time, sort of the way you say to yourself, "I like being a mommy. I like being a mommy," while you're cleaning up puke.
Anyway, they may not always be emotionally invested in it, but that doesn't mean it's not the right thing to do. So relax and have fun!

Awwww! I'll be praying for you for the transition. The boys are going to love it and there are always play dates to be arranged!
they'll love it. i totally think it is so courageous for you to undertake it. and they will too. if not now, in the future as they ponder what to do for their own children.
Your boys say the cutest things! You'll probably weigh your decision a lot before starting and even during homeschooling. Then the little rewarding things start occurring and you know it's God's will for your family.
One of the best things is it preserves their innocence and takes away some of the peer pressures that start early. When I ask my two older girls if they want to go back to school they without a doubt always say "no." It surprises me a little that they're so firm.
St. Therese helped us with our decision. She was homeschooled by her sister.
