Easier Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs (WFMW #44)

Check out Works for Me Wednesday at Rocks in My Dryer for lots of great tips and ideas!

Peeling hard boiled eggs can sometimes be a real pain. Sure, sometimes it goes just fine, but other times, the whites start peeling off with the shell. Augh!

Plus, I felt bad when I would let cold water run on the eggs after letting them boil for a minute or two.

Well...now my Mom came to the rescue on both of those egg problems!

After I removed the egg from the stove (after having had the lid on them for 20 minutes), I moved them over to the sink and filled the pan with cold water just to the top (after having dumped out the hot water).

Then...here's the important part...

I put a bunch of ice in the water as well! No more running cold water over the eggs. I just occasionally added more ice, as my ice melted. Not only did it save water, but it also made the eggs SO easy to peel!

And, then as an added green bonus, I waited until the pan of water was no longer freezing cold, took it outside, and emptied it on one of our trees.

Nice composition. Happy WW! :) Mine on Japanese Wedding Portraits is also up.

Interesting just from a color and texture perspective. The one brown egg amidst the white makes a great image.

Thanks for the comments -- but the egg photograph is not mine.

I suspect you were both coming through Wordless Wednesday, and mine is the post below this. It's not a great photograph though, just some very bad Care Bears that have, apparently, spent time in the slammer.

I love to make deviled eggs for special occasions. I will have to try that. I hate when the eggs don't peel well. I remember someone telling me to use older eggs not past their date but closer to it. That does help a bit but is not perfect. I guess i am just an egg perfectionist. Anyway thanks for the tip,

Deeny :-)

I have such a hard time boiling eggs! My husband teases me because I love to cook and I can make pretty complicated recipes, but when it comes to eggs, I usually make him boil them for me!

I've always done the running water, I never thought to do an ice bath!

Sounds good. I will definitely try this. I hate it when the white gets all mangled, especially if you're making deviled eggs.

I'm going to use this. I remember my Dad adding a little vinegar to the water before it boiled. This sounds better with the ice, thanks.
